Serpent Dessert Fork

"I’ve never been drawn to superstition, and I've never sought knowledge through supernatural means. Yet every year, as my birthday arrives, I inevitably find myself in front of a candle—closing my eyes, making a wish, and hoping, despite my doubts, for a trace of magic. 

My metalwork practice often centers on making small objects meant to enrich everyday rituals. And for this project I created a set of objects to be used together to celebrate a birthday: a matchbox for holding and striking the match that will light the candles, a miniature candlestick holder to hold the birthday candles, and most importantly, a dessert fork to be used for eating the requisite cake. Their meaning emerges not only through their individual form, but through their interplay in a moment of joy. 

Each piece draws inspiration from the snake, an ancient symbol of rebirth, renewal, and transformation— reflections that naturally arise with each passing year."
